Loch Lomond Highland Games events for 2006

Highland Games Triathlon
This year saw a record entry in the Highland Games Triathlon with 34 competitors completing the short but gruelling course. Once again, the race attracted a healthy mix of seasoned club triathletes like Kenny Girvan of Ayrodynamic and complete novices like local lifeguard, Stevie Conway.
First out of the loch after a 600m swim was Stuart Fraser of Stirling Tri Club in 8.07 minutes with a minute’s lead over previous winner, David Ogg. Stuart was to maintain this lead throughout the 14k mountain bike course, 3k cross country run to finish in a time of 46.58. David Ogg of the Bicycleworks.com finished in 48.09 with Stuart MacLeod third in 49.37.
First female was Lynsey Richards of Ayrodynamic in 59.40 with Corina Lunn second in 1.02.53 and Jeannette Stewart of Fleet Feet third in 1.03.23.

Athletics and Cycling Events
This year, we had an entry of 16 athletes, 16 youths and 8 cyclists. This was not as many as in previous years, but this appears to be the trend around the circuit in 2006; looking at the numbers, I believe we made this up with the quality of the competitors.
The winner of the New Year Spring, C Bowers of Glenrothes, won our 80 Metre Chapionship. John Newson of Pitreavie was the winner and runner up of the 2 mile and 1 mile races respectively. He is one of the best middle distance runners in Scotland today.
We also hosted a heat of the first ever joint ventures between the Scottish Athletic Federation and the Scottish Games Assocation which was a 4 x 1/2 lap relay for youths in the 12-15 year age group. This particular heat was won by West Dunbartonshire A.C. There are six heats throughout the country with the winner of each heat competing at the final at the Pitlochry Highland Games on 10th September 2006. It is hoped that this will be an annual event.
There has been an upsurge in the Cycling fraternity this season but because of other events taking place on the same day, we only managed a field of 8 cyclists. These cyclists put on a grand display of speed and courage which thrilled the crowd on the day.
